Restaurant expenses
You can deduct 69% of business lunches and dinners from your taxable profit. A meal of 100 euros therefore effectively costs you only 31 euros after the tax benefit.
Pro tip: make sure you have proof. Note who was present and what the business purpose was, and keep all receipts. Weekend meals attract extra attention during audits, so make sure you have a solid justification.

| The VAT on restaurant expenses cannot be recovered, despite the “VAT receipt” you receive. This VAT is, however, included in the amount that you may deduct at 69%. |
There is an important tax distinction between promotional items and business gifts. Business gifts have no direct link with your core business (for example: as a software company, you give a bottle of wine), whereas promotional items are directly related to your products or services (for example: as a hairdresser, you give away a bottle of shampoo).
This distinction is important, because promotional items are generally 100% deductible, while business gifts are only 50% deductible.
For VAT, the rule for business gifts is as follows: gifts under 50 euros per person are 100% deductible; above that amount, 0%.
Sponsorship with a demonstrable consideration (such as visibility of your logo) is 100% deductible for income tax purposes, with the same VAT rules as those for business gifts.
Entertainment expenses
Entertainment expenses are costs related to receiving and entertaining external relations. Think of hotel stays, catering or renting equipment for a corporate event.
These costs are only 50% deductible for income tax purposes. The VAT is not recoverable.
